Let's talk about the Keto diet.
It is a high fat (75% + total calories), moderate protein (20%) and low carb(5%) diet. Max carb intake is-> 20 gr a day ( 1 apple, 1 sweet potato..). This diet was first developed to treat children with epilepsy. Research shows it can promote weight/fat loss. However, it also promotes muscle mass loss. Moreover, there isn't enough research showing improvement in athletic performance vs a diet higher in carbohydrates.
While it can promote weight loss, there are several other ways that don't involve an entire food group restriction. Keep in mind that being on a high fat diet can affect your blood cholesterol. This means it is not a diet that can be adopted by everyone and work for everyone. Ask a dietitian or your doctor before starting a keto diet.
