FAQ

What is Crossfit?

CrossFit is a precise combination of exercise and nutrition that has been proven to increase fitness and health for people of all ages and abilities. CrossFit is founded on the first scientifically rigorous definition of fitness: The program produces observable results that can be measured and replicated.

Do I need to be in shape to start CrossFit?

Nope! Everyone can do CrossFit regardless of age, injuries and current fitness level. The program can be modified for each athlete to help him or her become fitter and healthier. Grandparents and Olympians—and everyone in between—can perform modified versions of the same workout.

How do I start?

Head on over to our “Get Started” page. Sign up online or come visit us, chat with Paul (aka Goose – see below) and set up a time to drop-in or start on-ramp.

What is a typical class like?

Each class has a warm-up, strength session and metcon workout. If there’s enough time, there will be a cash-out (see glossary link below) and some post-wod stretching. You can expect a review of all movements prior to the workout and plenty of scaling options provided by the class coach.

What do I need to bring with me?

Water, sneakers and some mental toughness. But if you forget any of it, we can also provide those items. We sell water, protein bars and recovery drinks. We also have a vast collection of abandoned shoes so you might get lucky and find your size. Mental toughness will develop over time, don’t worry.

What do all these words mean – EMOM, snatch, Fran, etc?

Check out this awesome glossary. Make some flash cards if you feel so inclined - https://greatist.com/fitness/ultimate-guide-crossfit-lingo#3

Is there parking available?

There is plenty of street parking around the neighborhood. Please leave extra time in case you have to do a few laps around the block.

Can I take public transportation to CFF?

Yes! We are located a quick walk from the Broad Street Line – Fairmount Station.

Why should I come to CFF?

Well…to put it bluntly – because we’re awesome. We’re a work hard, play hard community. You’re guaranteed to get a good, challenging workout every time you walk through our doors. And we also like to hang out outside the gym and talk about things besides crossfit (come see for yourself) at monthly happy hours, summer bike and brews, Friday Night Lights during the Crossfit Open, etc. Our growing community is composed of people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, skill levels ranging from two legged humans to four legged fur friends.

What is your drop in policy?

We love drop-ins! Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign the waiver. Be forewarned, you’ll be greeted by an overly friendly box dog, Molly.

Are Paul and Goose the same person?

Yes. Sometimes we forget Goose’s real name is actually Paul. Legend has it, he imprinted a flock of 100 geese and they flew him from Ireland to Philadelphia.
